Frequently asked questions
How much DT Pet Food should I feed?
DT Pet Food meals are portioned based on calories, not body-weight percentages.
You may have seen “2–3% of body weight” used in raw feeding. This is a rough traditional method and does not account for:
- Differences in food energy density
- Neutered vs intact dogs
- Activity level
- Individual metabolism
Because DT Pet Food is formulated by calories, we use a calorie-based feeding guide instead.
Step 1: Find your dog’s daily calorie needs
Use a trusted veterinary calorie calculator:
Enter your dog’s:
- Weight
- Age
- Activity level
- Neuter status
The calculator will return your dog’s Daily Calorie Requirement (kcal/day).
Step 2: Check the calorie content of our meals
Each DT Pet Food pack clearly lists:
Calories per pack (kcal)
Example:
240 kcal per 200g pack
Step 3: Calculate how many packs to feed
Daily calorie requirement ÷ calories per pack
= Number of packs per day
Example:
Dog needs 480 kcal/day
Meal pack = 240 kcal
→ Feed 2 packs per day
(The VetCalculators site may display results in “cups/cans”. You can treat 1 cup/can as 1 DT Pet Food pack.)
Step 4: Monitor & adjust
Every dog is unique. We recommend:
- Monitor body condition and weight
- Adjust portions up or down by ~10% if needed
- Reach out anytime — we help fine-tune feeding at no extra cost
If you’re unsure, don’t worry — just message us and we’ll calculate it for you.
How do I switch to DT Pet Food?
If you would like to warm up the food, we recommend reheating it until just warm to the touch, not piping hot, to support nutrient retention.
To help your dog adjust comfortably to the new diet, gradually increase the proportion of DT Pet Food in each meal.
You can monitor your dog’s adjustment by observing stool quality. If loose stools occur, remain at the previous portion for a few more days before increasing again. Different dogs have different transition speeds. Dogs transitioning from kibble or non-fresh diets may require a longer transition period.
Suggested transition guide for healthy adult dogs:
Day 1–2: 25% DT Pet Food, 75% current food
Day 3–4: 50% DT Pet Food, 50% current food
Day 5–6: 75% DT Pet Food, 25% current food
Day 7+: 100% DT Pet Food
For senior dogs or dogs with digestive sensitivities, we recommend extending each stage and transitioning more gradually.
If in doubt, just message us — we’ll guide you.
How do I store DT Pet Food?
For optimal freshness, we recommend using the food within 2 months from the delivery date while frozen.
Once defrosted, keep refrigerated and use within 3 days.
Defrosting methods:
- Transfer required packs to the fridge the day before
- Soak sealed packs in a bowl of water for quicker thawing
- Use the microwave defrost function if needed
Do not thaw food at room temperature, as this encourages bacterial growth.
Can I mix DT Pet Food with kibble or other food?
Yes. DT Pet Food can be fed alone or mixed with existing food. When mixing, follow the transition guide to avoid digestive upset.
Do I need to add supplements?
No. DT Pet Food recipes are nutritionally balanced for their intended feeding purpose. Additional supplements are not required unless advised for specific medical conditions.
Is DT Pet Food suitable for puppies?
Puppies have different nutritional requirements. Please contact us before feeding DT Pet Food to puppies so we can recommend the correct meal plan.
Can I feed DT Pet Food to senior dogs?
Yes. Many senior dogs do very well on fresh-cooked diets. Transition slowly and contact us if your dog has existing medical conditions.
